Connor McGovern spends a night in the stylish Piccadilly hotel
Refurbished in July 2016, the Athenaeum hasn’t lost any of its elegance. My Park Suite on the sixth floor is bright, fresh and inviting. The spacious bed is especially comfortable and makes for a solid night’s sleep, helped by the effectively soundproofed windows which completely shut out the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly below. The beautiful bathroom gleams with white marble and there’s a power shower and large bath. Downstairs, at Galvin at The Athenaeum, I’m guided through the stylish restaurant to a cosy leather booth. Food is delicious and despite the luxurious feel to the evening, Galvin is surprisingly laid-back. The breakfast is perhaps the best I’ve ever had. The continental buffet vies for attention against a perfectly cooked full English. I leave feeling rested, relaxed and well-fed.
