This is not your average cafe: you can also get your bike fixed here. Owner Dan Armstrong is a cycling enthusiast and his cycle cafe started out as a pop-up in 2014, before moving to his current premises on Seabourne Road in Southbourne on the back of a crowdfunding campaign. With a menu including quinoa porridge, poached eggs and smashed avocado on sourdough toast this is a hipster’s dream.
Plates & Co
Located in the roof space of an old chapel in Westbourne, Plates & Co is the place for an occasion. Exposed brick, dark wood and stained glass create quite the regal atmosphere, however, the three-course set menu is a very reasonable £24.
This cafe is in a killer location, right on the seafront at Boscombe beach. Open from 8am-11pm for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails, there’s a friendly welcome and a chilled atmosphere, plus an amazing view and plenty of sea air. The cafe is also used as a live music venue, creative space and the meeting point for yoga classes on the beach.
Next to the local Co-op in an unassuming location on Belle Vue Road, Southbourne sits Roots, a love little restaurant run by husband and wife team Jan and Stacey. They are both trained chefs, using nature as the inspiration behind their cooking and food presentation.
This is a cafe so dedicated to coffee that it even offers courses in it— from barista training to latte art. Boscanova, located on Christchurch Road, is the sister site of South Coast Roast Family. The latter sits on Richmond Hill and you can expect a good vibe and delicious food and drink at either venue.
